The Mumbai Police Department is conducting an investigation. Rashmi Thackeray, the CM's wife, was dubbed 'Marathi Rabri Devi' by a BJP leader.

The Maharashtra unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) summoned a BJP functionary on Thursday to quiz him about his reportedly offensive tweets regarding state Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray's wife, Rashmi Thackeray, equating her to former Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi. 

According to Keshav Upadhye, Maharashtra BJP's chief spokesperson, officers from the Mumbai Police's cyber cell arrived at the office of Jiten Gajaria, a member of the Maharashtra BJP's social media wing, on Thursday afternoon and took him to the cyber cell's office in Bandra Kurla Complex to record his statement.

They went to Gajaria's office to bring him in (the cyber cell officers). He was still being held at the police station as of Thursday evening. There is currently no FIR. We have no idea who the complainant is. "However, this is not correct," Upadhye asserted. 

"He (Gajaria) has not been detained," Rashmi Karandikar, deputy commissioner of police, cyber cell, told ThePrint. It's all part of the procedure. A group of women had expressed their dissatisfaction. The procedure is still being completed." 

Rabri Devi was elected Chief Minister of Bihar in July 1997, following the resignation of her husband, Lalu Prasad Yadav, due to bribery accusations linked to the fodder scam. She was the state's first female governor.

On Tuesday, Gajaria posted a photo of Rashmi Thackeray with the caption "Marathi Rabri Devi."

Gajaria also uploaded a photo of CM Thackeray and Deputy CM Ajit Pawar talking with the comment, "If Rashmi runs the government, am I the deputy CM simply to urinate?" on the same day. The tweet has since been taken down. 

The tweet was a veiled reference to Ajit Pawar's infamous statement from 2013. Pawar had mocked the state's chronic water deficit at a public forum, asking farmers if he should urinate in dams to fill them up.

Gajaria's tweets came after Abdul Sattar, a Shiv Sena minister of state in Maharashtra's government, told reporters that if CM Thackeray, who is recovering from major cervical spine surgery, decided to appoint Rashmi Thackeray as Maharashtra's first woman chief minister, all Shiv Sena members would applaud the move.
